Frequently Asked Questions
Fishing in Charleston with Captain Chris and Charleston Coast Charters

Is there a bathroom on the flats boats?

No, there is not.  We generally handle the potty factor a number of ways depending on the person and how bad they need to go.  Stopping at a beach somewhere, getting in the water at a safe local or visiting a marina are some examples.

Should I bring my own fishing gear?

That is up to you.  If you have a favorite rod or lure that you want to use by all means, bring it.  I do, however, have some of the top gear available for fishing that I am sure you will be very happy with.  If you do decide to bring your own gear, please make sure that I know about it so I can make room.

What should we bring on our fishing trip?

Yourself, what you like to eat, sunscreen lotion, a good pair of polarized sunglasses, a hat and maybe a camera.  Additional items such as raingear my be necessary due to weather.  (Shoes with non marking soles, white sole sneakers or boat shoes)

What is supplied on the trips?

Rods, reels, bait, tackle, lures, live bait (seasonal), green tea, soda, crackers, bottled water (plenty), ice, and life jackets.  My Equipment Page.

What if I forget my camera?

I carry a HP Photo Smart M425 digital camera on my boat at all times.  I take shots of you and your catches then send them to you via email for no additional charges.

How many fish will I catch?

I get this question all the time.  It depends on what we fish for, when we fish for it, the weather while fishing for it, the water temperature while fishing for it, how well you do fishing for it, and how many fish we see for the day of fishing that you have set forth to see and catch fish…….In other words….I have no idea.

What if there is bad weather?

It is our discretion to go or not to go.  The winds are bad to us when there is a small craft advisory.  This means that the winds are over 25 knots and gusty.  Definitely not the nicest day on the water.  As for rain and lightning, it will be a mutual decision based on radar forecast.  Rule of thumb, we generally do not go out on bad days.

What happens to my deposit if we get canceled due to weather?

If I cancel due to weather you are refunded your deposit.  If you decide to cancel because you do not like the weather and the captain says the weather is fine there is no refund.

What happens to my deposit if I cancel inside the 7-day cancellation policy?

We realize things come up last minute, unfortunately trips don’t come last minute for us.  If we are able to fill your space with another charter you will receive a refund minus 50 dollars.  If rescheduling is not done then there is no refund of your deposit.

It says on my confirmation to call Capt. Chris the night before the trip, Why?

When it come to your trip, call me the night before so we can go over the details of the weather, gear you will need, special requests, pick-up location, etc.  It also lets me know that you are confirming you are ready to go and will show up for pick-up.  This program works so that neither of us is waiting for a no-show the next morning.

Where will we meet for pick-up?

That’s why the confirmation phone call is so important.  Many factors may influence the pick-up location and I shall attempt to make it as convenient as possible.  Available locations are discussed at time of booking and your trip pick-up location will be confirmed the night before your trip.  See my rates/services page.

What kind of fish will we be fishing for?

Again, that depends of the style of fishing you wish to do.  Coastal South Carolina offers a variety of species with many techniques that are successful.  Using my experience we will target seasonal species to make the day as adventurous as possible.  See my About Capt. Chris page.
